Koru Performing Arts

‘The 1:1 Koru drama lessons on Zoom have worked really well and have been a fantastic opportunity for my son to benefit from Jane’s expert tuition. Although he has missed his Koru friends, the individual attention he has received from Jane has meant that he has made such a lot of progress towards his LAMDA exam pieces. Jane works in a very collaborative manner, encouraging and valuing my son’s contributions which has meant that he has really grown in confidence. I have also thoroughly enjoyed being more involved (and have learnt a lot myself!) We have found Jane’s emailed notes and guidance sent after each lesson really helpful. Drama on Zoom has been a very enjoyable and positive experience and a highlight of this time for my son’   Lara Chaplin – Parent and teacher.

William worked in the recording industry as a session keyboard player and has also been involved in musical theatre and opera as a professional singer. He worked for fifteen years as a qualified class teacher in both the state and independent sectors before starting his private piano and singing business in 2015.  William teaches Beginners to Advanced, from age 7. William prepares students for practical music exams, simply for pleasure or for short consultation blocks of lessons. He is open to the teaching of all styles of music and believes that the understanding of excellent basic technique is the key to progress.

‘Koru is a Maori symbol of creation, an unfurling fern frond, conveying perpetual movement, its inward coil, a return to the point of origin.  The koru therefore symbolises the way in which life both changes and stays the same’
Te Ahukaramu, Maori creation traditions

As teachers, to facilitate the needs of our learners we must understand their differing needs.  Once we have understood their needs, we will then seek to construct the appropriate language to nurture them.
