Koru Performing Arts

LAMDA courses via Zoom.

Safety and student well-being is our priority.

Autumn term 2020 with Koru Performing Arts.

“The 1:1 Koru drama lessons on Zoom have worked really well and have been a fantastic opportunity for my son to benefit from Jane’s expert tuition. Although he has missed his Koru friends, the individual attention he has received from Jane has meant that he has made such a lot of progress towards his LAMDA exam pieces. Jane works in a very collaborative manner, encouraging and valuing my son’s contributions which has meant that he has really grown in confidence. I have also thoroughly enjoyed being more involved (and have learnt a lot myself!) We have found Jane’s emailed notes and guidance sent after each lesson really helpful. Drama on Zoom has been a very enjoyable and positive experience and a highlight of this time for my son”  – Lara Chaplin – Parent and teacher.

Jane Syder

Artistic director of Koru Performing Arts and Academy

‘Koru is a Maori symbol of creation, an unfurling fern frond, conveying perpetual movement, its inward coil, a return to the point of origin.  The koru therefore symbolises the way in which life both changes and stays the same’
Te Ahukaramu, Maori creation traditions

As teachers, to facilitate the needs of our learners we must understand their differing needs.  Once we have understood their needs, we will then seek to construct the appropriate language to nurture them.

At Koru we endeavour to offer a range of drama and dance classes with the option of taking exams and being involved in performance.

School starters are often made self-conscious by their altered environment as it can take time to settle. The continuity of the classes and peer-group can provide reassurance. By balancing imagery using material that is suitable for their age – group alongside technical skills, this achieves an interpersonal reaction at the children’s level of play.

All our staff are qualified with enhanced DBS certificates.

Private one-to-one tuition is available on request in Drama, Public Speaking, Ballet, Tap or Modern Theatre Dance.

Audition technique and preparation for Drama school entry is also available

Workshops in Contemporary dance, Jazz, Street, Tap and Ballet, Drama, Musical Theatre and Singing including Creative Arts, Prop/mask-making and Set Design are very popular and are soon to return following our government advise on Covid-19.
